[Lesson 109] Rev 7: The Newly Created 12 Tribes of New Spiritual Israel Part 1

This lesson covers Revelation 7:1-8, introducing the sealing of the 144,000 from the 12 tribes of the newly created spiritual Israel after the judgment of the previous spiritual Israel in Revelation 6.

The four angels holding back the four winds represent a pause in judgment to allow the sealing work. An angel from the east with God’s seal (the word/fulfillment of Revelation) comes to seal the 144,000 servants of God on their foreheads (engraving the word in their hearts and minds).

The 144,000 are comprised of 12,000 from each of the 12 tribes, whose names are listed using the sons of Jacob as parables. They are being prepared as a priestly kingdom to replace those who betrayed previously.

The sealing work of gathering the 144,000 priests and the great multitude is an ongoing process of fulfillment happening today through the promised pastor who was commanded to eat the scroll in Revelation 10.

I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, [13] and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind.

Yeast of Heaven

Lot’s wife could not forget her old life, so she turned around. Think about how much Lot’s heart must have been burning. Even though Lot shouted: “Please hurry! If you don’t, you will burn to death!” She didn’t listen and became a pillar of salt. God has been working for the last 6,000 yeats for this very day. If one clearly knows the times, then one should offer up one’s heart, thoughts, actions and everything before God, and be faithful to the last work God is doing.

But if one cannot forget about the world, and thinks about worldly things thinking: “What if…” – this is turning around and looking back. If those who are walking the same road as God cannot forget about the world and only think about the world day and night, then won’t they suffer the same fate as Lot’s wife?

In this era, God has been working for 6,000 years until today. We must clearly understand the time and era we are living in – it is the era of fulfillment of revelation and the fulfillment of the second coming.

 

We must:

– Change our heart, thoughts, and actions

– Be born of God’s seed

– Be harvested and sealed

– Flee to the mountain without turning back

 

Though we live in this world, we are not of this world where Satan rules. We acknowledge that change is not easy, yet it is essential in becoming a new creation where God and heaven can dwell.

Let us not follow the steps of Lot’s wife who couldn’t give up her old life. Instead, we should be those who look forward to our new life, walking the same road as God and Jesus.

Speaking of change, there will be changes that you all will be looking forward to. Since many of you have a deeper understanding of the word, there have been questions about what the Sunday service is like in Mount Zion. Next Sunday, we – the instructors and evangelists who are part of Mount Zion – will show you how it looks.

 

By God’s grace, we begin our week with the Word. As we gather today, we’re delving into the deeper understanding of Revelation, and there’s excitement each time we come before this Word.

Let’s reflect on our journey through Revelation so far, particularly focusing on the major lessons we’ve learned from chapters 1 through 6. These chapters are fundamental as they represent the end of a particular era and the beginning of a new era. Today, our focus will be on this new era.

Review of the Book of Revelation’s Content – Chapters Covered so Far:

Rev 1:8 serves as the summarized conclusion of the entire book of Revelation. 

The main points of this chapter demonstrate the flow of how the scroll was opened:

– From God

– To Jesus

– To the angel

– To New John

The significance of the first 8 verses is that they encompass the complete narrative of Revelation, revealing:

– How it begins

– What must take place

– How it ends

Revelation 1:9-20: The Beginning Events of Revelation and the Mystery of the 7 Stars and 7 Lampstands

Main Points:

 

New John witnesses Jesus along with the 7 stars and 7 lampstands. In this passage, New John receives his appointment and is given a specific task: to deliver letters containing three aspects:

– What he has seen

– What is now

– What will take place later


John’s Initial Reaction:

When he heard God’s voice, it sounded like a trumpet coming from behind him. He recognized the presence as “someone like the son of man.”

 

New John’s Response Upon Seeing Jesus:

He fell down to his feet in surprise, which is understandable given what he saw:

– Eyes like blazing fire

– Feet like bronze

– Voice like the sound of rushing waters and like a trumpet

– A double-edged sword coming out of his mouth

 

Anyone would be scared seeing such an entity, leading to New John’s natural reaction of falling to His feet in fear when encountering such a powerful divine presence. You would be scared too.


Rev 2-3: The Letter sent to Messangers of the 7 Churches

Jesus’s Spirit instructed John to send letters to the 7 churches.

The letters’ content can be summarized as follows:

– Good news and acknowledgment of their faith

– Addressing their current issues and problems

– Warning of consequences if they don’t repent

– Promises of blessings for those who do repent

 

The message was divided into 3 parts:

  1. What New John had seen: The vision of Jesus’s appearance, the seven stars, and the seven golden lampstands
  2. What is now: Satan’s ongoing deception affecting the people
  3. What will take place later: The promise of 12 blessings to those who overcome

Rev 4: The Throes and Structure of God in the Spiritual Realm.

When New John’s spirit was brought up into heaven, this is what he witnesses:

  1. He sees God seated on the throne.
  1. While Jesus is present next to God, John doesn’t mention Him until Revelation chapter 5.
  1. From his heavenly vantage point, John sees:


– The 24 elders

– The 7 spirits

– The sea of glass

– The 4 living creatures


During this time, from God’s throne come:

– Flashes of lightning

– Rumblings

– Peals of thunder


These represent the commands of God and how the spirits carry out His word, moving swiftly like lightning.

 

All these spirits lay their crowns before God, declaring:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God who was and is and is to come.”

Rev 5: The Book Sealed with 7 Seals.

Revelation Chapter 4 continues with John’s vision in heaven within the spiritual world. 

In this vision, John observes a sealed book in God’s hand. He realizes that no one in heaven, on earth, or under the earth could open it or look inside. This realization causes John to weep. His weeping stems from understanding that as long as the scroll remains sealed, God’s plan of salvation – final and complete salvation – cannot be fulfilled, and the revelation cannot be accomplished.

However, by God’s grace, there was one who could open it – Jesus. He was worthy to open the seals and look inside because He was slain during His first coming, bore the cross, and shed His blood for the atonement of our sins. He is the only entity qualified for this task.

Jesus opening the seals means fulfillment. This is why it is called “the revelation of Jesus Christ,” as stated in Revelation 1:1. The revelation belongs to Jesus because He is the one who opened it. God gave this revelation to Jesus.

In Revelation 5, John witnesses the sealed scroll, which God gives to Jesus who was about to open it. This leads into Revelation 6.

All of heaven responds to Jesus with “Holy, holy, holy is the lamb. You are worthy to open the seals.” They give glory to God in Revelation 4 and to Jesus in Revelation 5.

 

Jesus’s blood purchases:

  1. A kingdom – which represents a great multitude of people
  2. Priests – the 144,000 who have a special duty to teach


While everyone receives the blessing of heaven and eternal life, the 144,000 are given this specific teaching duty, which will be amazing. Both the great multitude and the 144,000 receive the blessing of heaven and eternal life.


Rev 6: The Judgement of the Sun, Moon and Stars of the Former Heaven that Betrayed.

The events in Revelation 6 mark the beginning of judgment because people did not repent despite the warnings in the letters. Jesus begins to open each seal, and with each opening (one, two, three, four), judgment manifests as actual realities. The 5th and 6th Seals (different from the first four).

 

The Pattern of Each Seal Opening:

– One of the four living creatures appears and says “Come”

– A rider appears on different horses

– Each rider holds or is followed by elements of judgment

– The riders carry items like the bow and scales, representing the word that judges in various ways

 

Specific Events:

  1. The pale (dappled) horse is followed by Hades, collecting the spirits of those spiritually slain.
  1. The 5th Seal reveals martyrs before the throne/altar, crying out:

   “How long, sovereign Lord, will you wait to avenge our blood? Our brothers are being killed as we were.”

   God’s response: “Be patient until their number is complete.”


The Progression of Spiritual Death:

– A quarter die spiritually in Revelation 6

– Of the remaining three-fourths:

  * A third dies in Chapter 8

  * A third dies in Chapter 9

  * A third dies in Chapter 12

– When complete, vengeance occurs in Revelations 16, 17, and 18

The Sixth Seal:

– Brings a spiritual earthquake (shaking people’s hearts)

– Sun, moon, and stars (representing pastors, evangelists, and saints) fall and lose their heavenly positions

– The sky rolls up like a scroll (heaven leaves them)

– People flee into caves (churches of Babylon without light)

 

The narrative then transitions to Revelation 7, which presents a contrasting picture – “night and day” compared to Chapter 6.


 

Rev 7: The Newly Created 12 Tribes of New Spiritual Israel Part 1

Today’s study covers Revelation 7:1-8, with verses 9-14 to be covered tomorrow due to the extensive content.

 

This chapter introduces two distinct groups:

  1. The 144,000
  2. The great multitude in white

Both groups are composed of members from the 12 tribes, with:

– The 144,000 serving in a priestly role

– The great multitude representing the people of the kingdom

Revelation 6 describes the judgment that came as a consequence of people’s lack of repentance after the letters were sent.

The judgment was executed by Jesus through the four living creatures. Each time one of the four living creatures said “come,” a different horse appeared, each bringing a distinct type of judgment.

Following this, there was the proclamation of the martyrs. They cried out to the Lord, saying, “How long, sovereign Lord, until our blood is avenged?” God’s response to them was to wait.

Then came the 6th seal, where the sun, moon, and stars turned dark and fell. This symbolized the completion of spiritual Israel’s end. With spiritual Israel ending, there was a need for a new spiritual Israel to emerge.

The ending process occurred gradually, not instantly. It began with a fourth, and then from those remaining, it continued in thirds – a third, then another third, and finally a third of what remained – until the complete number of those under judgment was fulfilled.

Revelation 7:1

After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree.

ONE – After This: After the Events of Rev 6

The chapter begins with the words “After this.” These words carry significant importance in the book of Revelation, as they indicate a sequential order of events. Specifically, “After this” signifies that the events in Revelation 7 follow the events described in Revelation 6.

Revelation 6 and Revelation 7 form one of the three sets of contrasting chapters in the book. They stand in contrast to each other, presenting different perspectives and events.

1.- Sun, Moon and Stars Fall, First Heaven and First Earth (1H1E) = Tabernacle Temple (TT)

In Revelation 6, when discussing the sun, moon, and stars going dark and falling, this represents the end of the Tabernacle Temple (TT). 

The First Heaven and First Earth (1H1E), which passed away, was known as the Tabernacle Temple. This represented the conclusion of spiritual Israel’s era.

 

First Heaven and First Earth (1H1E) = Tabernacle Temple (TT)

 

When we say they were destroyed, it doesn’t mean the people physically ceased to exist or vanished. Rather, it signifies a change in their spiritual affiliation – they transitioned from belonging to God to no longer being affiliated with God.

1.1 The Beginning of Destruction: It starts in September 1980

In September 1980, a significant event marked the beginning of destruction. This period of destruction would last for 42 months, which is further detailed in Revelation chapters 8, 9, 11, and 13.

1.2 The 7 stars resigned

During this time, the 7 stars resigned from their positions of authority.

1.3 The name of the church changed

 

The church underwent a name change:

– From: TT (established by God and Jesus)

– To: The Central Isaac Presbyterian Church

 

The name change signified more than just a new title – it represented a change in affiliation. Although the Central Isaac Presbyterian Church name is less relevant today, as they have since changed their name again, the significance of this initial change remains important.

The people at that time believed they were making the right decision. They were influenced by representatives sent from the powerful government, who came with the backing of large churches and considerable authority. 

The congregation reasoned: “Though this is somewhat different from what we previously received, perhaps they are correct.” Seeing that the 7 stars had resigned, they took this as further confirmation and decided to accept these new teachings.

 

1.4 The beast invades. 

The beast with 7 heads and 10 horns enters and invades. This moment marks a significant event. From God’s and Jesus’ perspective, spiritual Israel was officially finished – it was over. 

At this point, God requires a new kingdom and priests to replace those who betrayed and were destroyed.


2.- New Heaven New Earth, Beginning of New Spiritual Israel

Revelation 7 is currently in the process of fulfillment. While some chapters in Revelation have clear beginning and end points, this chapter continues to be fulfilled in the present time, specifically after the described destruction takes place.

2.1 A crucial detail about Revelation chapter 7 is its ongoing fulfillment in our current time, today.

This chapter is considered one of the long-running chapters in Revelation because it describes the gathering of new spiritual Israel, which is still taking place today. Unlike other chapters with definitive timeframes, this process continues.

The new heaven and new earth mentioned here refers to the TTT (Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony), as described in Revelation chapter 15. 

It’s important to note that this should not be confused with TT. In some Bible versions, particularly NIV, this may be referred to as “the temple of the covenant law” – they refer to the same place.

2.2 The Sealing of the 144,000 Priests

Revelation 7 continues its fulfillment in our present time. The sealing of the 144,000 priests is an ongoing process that extends to today. For those who are hearing this message, it signifies that there is still an opportunity for you to become one of the 144,000.

Yes, this includes you – don’t run! You still have time. The evidence is clear as we witness many people graduating each year. This is your chance to secure your position.

To break down the numbers: The 144,000 priests are composed of 12,000 from each of the 12 tribes, which equals 144,000 in total.

2.3 The Great Multitude in White

The gathering includes a great multitude that no one can count, comprising people from every tribe, people, language, and nation worldwide. While this gathering continues, it is better to strive to be a priest.

Continuing with Revelation chapter 1, it’s important to understand the logic of why Revelation chapters 6 and 7 are positioned next to each other. Although we paused at the point where Jesus was opening the seals, with the last seal being opened in the next chapter, there’s a specific reason for Revelation 7’s placement beside Revelation 6.

Even though these chapters don’t occur at exactly the same temporal moment, God and Jesus want us to clearly see the contrast between the end of one era and the beginning of a new era. The narrative then continues in Revelation 8.

This understanding wasn’t available until the fulfillment occurred. The relationship between Revelation 6 and 7 wasn’t something that could have been intuited beforehand – it became clear only after these events had taken place.

Revelation 7:2-3

Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea: [3] “Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God.”

TWO – 4 Angels = The 4 Living Creatures

Looking at Revelation 7:1, the scripture describes four angels positioned at the four corners of the earth. 

Their purpose was to prevent the winds from blowing on three specific areas: the land, the sea, and any tree.

These four angels are identified as the four living creatures, also known as the four archangels. The word “arch” here represents leadership.

The four corners mentioned refer to the cardinal directions: north, south, east, and west.

This connects to Zechariah 6:6, which we previously studied in Revelation 6, where it describes chariots moving in different directions.

Each of the four living creatures was assigned to guard one of these four directions – north, south, east, and west.

THREE – 4 Winds = 4 Armies

The 4 winds represent the 4 angels who bring judgment, serving as judges in God’s army. Similar to what we see in Joshua chapter 5, these ark angels function as commanders.

These commanders have authority over other angels under them, and they are described as being surrounded by many eyes. Each of the four living creatures commanded their eyes to stop.

In Revelation 6, there is mention of a strong wind blowing, causing stars to fall as if shaken by this strong wind.

However, the angels’ winds were commanded to stop. Why? The purpose was to allow the sealing to take place. The judgment had to pause momentarily.

This created a period of peace and quiet necessary for the sealing work to begin. 

The four winds represent the four armies of heaven, with each army belonging to one of the four living creatures who serve as commanders in God’s army.

As commanders, each has four sets of many eyes, or spirits. When they gave the command to stop, the angels obeyed.

 

Important Biblical References:

  1. Hebrews 1:7 – Angels are compared to winds
  2. Jeremiah 4:12-13 – Winds are compared to judgment

Therefore, the four winds represent both the angels themselves and the judgment these angels bring.

FOUR – Winds Stopped

The angels are told to stop for a moment, causing the winds to cease, as previously discussed. This pause in the winds allows the sealing to take place. The judgment is temporarily halted for this sealing process.

During this pause in judgment, who is to be sealed? First, the 144,000 are sealed, followed by the great multitude in white. The 144,000 are the initial group to receive the sealing.

Note: The sequence of events: stopping of winds → pause in judgment → sealing of 144,000 → followed by the great multitude in white.

Review Revelation 7:1.

After this – referring to what? It refers to the judgment of those who betrayed: the sun, moon, and stars of the former heaven. This shows why titles are so significant.

The title alone can provide a summary of the entire chapter.

Revelation 7:2 NIV84

Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea:

ONE – East: Ps 84:11

In verse 2, John writes “I saw another angel.” This angel came from the east. The east has special significance because it is where the sun rises. 

In the spiritual world, God is compared to the sun. This is why the angel’s appearance from the east is meaningful.

For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

The Lord God is a sun and a shield, and the east symbolizes where the sun rises. In a deeper spiritual sense, the east represents where God begins His work.

God’s work encompasses restoration and illumination. There is a common saying that “it is darkest before the dawn,” which perfectly describes the situation at The Tabernacle Temple. When they had fallen into deep darkness, God decided it was time to begin His work anew, metaphorically “rolling up His sleeves.”

This new beginning is like a second creation, specifically the creation of the 12 tribes of new spiritual Israel. The angel rising from the east signifies this divine initiative. While some might interpret this as a specific signal for Korea, it more fundamentally represents the location where God chooses to begin His work.

TWO – Seal

The angel coming from the east holds a seal, but what is the significance of this seal he’s holding? The seal represents the word.

How can we understand that a seal symbolizes the word? To comprehend this, we must first understand what a seal is. A seal functions like a stamp. In official documents, while signatures are common, certain cultures use personal stamps or signet rings. These are pressed into wax to mark documents, serving as an official seal of approval, indicating that the contents have been approved and condoned.

When we consider God’s seal, what content is He seeking to approve? It is the word. The most significant thing we can store in our hearts and minds is God’s word. Therefore, the seal is God’s word.

This concept is similar to putting someone’s name on something – God’s word is what needs to be sealed, like His name. 

This is referenced in John 1:1. Additionally, a person can also become a seal.

 

God’s Seal → Servants of God (Those being sealed)

 

Let’s turn to the book of Haggai. You don’t read this book very often.


Haggai 2:23 NIV84

” ‘On that day, ‘ declares the Lord Almighty, ‘I will take you, my servant Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will make you like my signet ring, for I have chosen you,’ declares the Lord Almighty.”

God said, “I have chosen you, Zerubbabel, who is like my signet rain.” A signet rain was a tool that kings used to stamp their official documents and decrees. Kings would carry this seal on their ring.

God called Zerubbabel, Jesus, a seal. Jesus’ mission was to seal many people by putting the word on their foreheads and hands. The angel, holding a seal, was putting it on the foreheads of the servants of God – those being sealed.

Who was God’s seal? Who was the angel using to accomplish this work of sealing? It was New John.

 

A person with the word, New John.

 

New John is sealing people with the words of Revelation’s fulfillment. God’s seal in the angel’s hand represents New John himself. He is sealing others with what he was first sealed with when he was commanded to eat.

In Revelation 10, the instruction was to eat the scroll. When the scroll reaches his stomach, it signifies that the word has been digested or understood.

His responsibility is to ensure others understand as well. The principle is: after you have eaten, help others to eat too. Therefore, God’s seal is beneficial.

This seal is something we all desire and have been receiving since the beginning of class. You can recognize you’re being sealed when you can quickly answer questions – the answers flow naturally from within you.


For example, when someone asks what John 1:1 says, and you can recite automatically: “In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God.” This demonstrates that the word has been stamped and engraved in the tablet of your heart.

It shows God’s work: when you memorize John 1:1, it becomes permanently sealed within you, never to be removed.


THREE – Satan’s Mark: Falsehood (lies) Rev 12, 666

Satan’s primary goal is to unengrave God’s word and separate us from God. While God wants to seal us with His word, Satan attempts to do the opposite – he wants to seal people with his word by corrupting God’s truth.

When people receive these lies, they are receiving Satan’s mark, as God’s seal is His word, and Satan’s mark consists of lies.

We previously held misconceptions about the mark 666, thinking it was related to barcodes, vaccines, or computer chips. This shows how wild the teachings of Babylon were. It’s a relief to no longer be part of that system, and hopefully, you feel the same way. It’s truly sad because people are making life-altering decisions based on false teachings. For example, some avoid necessary medical treatments believing they are the mark, which ultimately compromises their health.

Satan’s lies are dangerous because they lead people to act in ways that are detrimental to their well-being in many aspects.

Before our study, we already had the mark. In Revelation 13, it mentions people receiving the mark because initially they didn’t have it. They were God and Jesus’s chosen people to deliver the word and were the representatives, the lampstand. While everyone else was already in darkness with the mark, these chosen people later descended into darkness, and that’s when they received the mark. This is what Revelation 13 describes.

Let’s examine what we have covered in Revelation chapter 7, focusing on just two verses that are filled with significant events.

These two verses introduce us to the newly created 12 tribes of new spiritual Israel. The chapter begins with “after this,” referring to the events that followed Revelation chapter 6, when God and Jesus began gathering the elect.

In this passage, we see that the winds are held back, and the angels command them to stop blowing, creating a time of relative peace. This peaceful period allows for the sealing of those who need to be sealed.

In Revelation 7:2, an angel appears from the east with God’s seal. This angel’s purpose is to seal the foreheads of God’s people. The sealing process involves placing God’s word in their hearts and minds, effectively transforming them into walking Bibles.

However, there is a contrast presented: Satan has his own mark, which represents the opposite of God’s truth. Satan’s mark carries his falsehood and lies, leading people away from the truth and replacing God’s word with Satan’s word instead.

Revelation 7:3

“Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God.”

Three important points here:

ONE – The land and the trees:  It represents people

The land and trees represent people in figurative language. 

There are several Bible verses that illustrate this figurative representation:

When discussing land (or soil), two key references are:

  1. Luke 8:15 – The Parable of the Four Fields
  2. 1 Corinthians 3:9-16

Regarding trees and vegetation, 1 Peter 1:21-24 states that “all men are like grass” and speaks of being “born of the imperishable seed.”

Looking at Revelation 7:3, it says “Do not harm the land or the sea or any trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of our servants of our God.” 

This connects the figurative representation of land and trees to people who are God’s servants.

TWO – We: God and Jesus and the angels. 

Heaven exists in the spiritual world, and spirits work through people on earth. These spirits from heaven will preach to seal others, and this includes the one who overcomes.

The 12 tribe leaders have the responsibility to ensure each tribe is sealed. In heaven’s spiritual world, God, Jesus, and the angels work through these leaders to accomplish this task.

Together, they work as swiftly as lightning, functioning as one team.

THREE – Seal on Foreheads

The seals placed on the foreheads of the servants represent how the 12 tribes will receive the word. This word will be imprinted both on their hearts and minds. 

The 12 tribes will receive revelations, prophecy, and fulfillment – also known as the word of testimony or the oil. This understanding of the word will be deeply embedded in both their hearts and minds.

Hebrews 8:10-12 NIV84

This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. [11] No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. [12] For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more. “

In examining this passage, we see God’s promise to establish a new covenant. What is the significance of God taking this covenant?

The scripture reveals that He will write the law on people’s hearts and minds. Here, the law represents revelation. Through this covenant, God declares He will be their God, and they will be His people.

According to the passage, there will come a time when people will no longer need to tell each other to know God, because everyone will know Him – from the least to the greatest. 

Additionally, their sins will be forgiven and not remembered anymore.

There is another significant verse in the book of John that adds impact to this message.

John 3:31-34 NIV84

“The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all. [32] He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. [33] The man who has accepted it has certified that God is truthful. [34] For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.

Jesus, who was from above all, spoke the words of heaven, yet “no one accepts his testimony.” When it says “no one,” it refers to the extremely small number of people who actually accepted his testimony. 

Initially, in an entire country, only 12 people believed – essentially no one (about 0.0001%). However, for those few who did believe, they “certified” that God is truthful. (Note: Some Bible versions might use different words here.)

This certification process happened at the first coming when Jesus was preaching. Similarly, at the second coming, people need to certify that God is truthful and seal themselves with the book of Revelation.

Revelation 7:4-8

Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel. [5] From the tribe of Judah 12,000 were sealed, from the tribe of Reuben 12,000, from the tribe of Gad 12,000, [6] from the tribe of Asher 12,000, from the tribe of Naphtali 12,000, from the tribe of Manasseh 12,000, [7] from the tribe of Simeon 12,000, from the tribe of Levi 12,000, from the tribe of Issachar 12,000, [8] from the tribe of Zebulun 12,000, from the tribe of Joseph 12,000, from the tribe of Benjamin 12,000.

Important points are revealed in this passage.

In verse 4, it states “Then I heard the number of those who had been sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel.” The text continues to describe that 12,000 were sealed from each tribe.

This numerical prophecy must be fulfilled exactly as written at the time of the second coming. This is not a figurative number but represents a true count that will be precisely fulfilled as recorded in the scripture.

ONE – 144,000 from 12 Tribes: New Spiritual Isreal

The Fulfillment of 144,000

The requirement states there must be 12,000 from each of the twelve tribes of New Spiritual Israel, totaling 144,000.

 

This fulfillment happens in two steps:

STEP ONE:

Each tribe at Shinchonji Mount Zion must ensure they have at least 12,000 members in their tribe.

STEP TWO:

Within each tribe, 12,000 members must be sealed. Currently:

– Some tribes have exceeded the requirement with 30,000 or 40,000 members

– Other tribes have not yet reached the goal, having only 11,000 members

– These tribes still need to work to reach the minimum of 12,000

The tribes are distributed worldwide, actively evangelizing to reach these numbers for fulfillment.

 

Important Note:

Simply being at Mount Zion does not complete the requirement. Each individual must personally complete the work of sealing the book of Revelation in their hearts and minds.


TWO – 12 Tribes Names

The Priests

Now, let’s discuss who these people are: The 144,000.

These individuals will serve as priest-like people. To understand their role better, we need to examine what it means to be a priest and what their responsibilities entail. We can find examples of priestly duties in Malachi chapter two.

Let us explore what a priest has to do.

Malachi 2:5-7 NIV84

“My covenant was with him, a covenant of life and peace, and I gave them to him; this called for reverence and he revered me and stood in awe of my name. [6] True instruction was in his mouth and nothing false was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many from sin. [7] “For the lips of a priest ought to preserve knowledge, and from his mouth men should seek instruction—because he is the messenger of the Lord Almighty.

A priest has specific responsibilities that remain constant from the Old Testament era until today. The lips of a priest are meant to preserve knowledge, and they have three main duties:

  1. Turn many people from sin
  2. Seek instruction
  3. Keep the covenant

These fundamental duties of a priest were true in the Old Testament times and continue to be true today. The priest must maintain these responsibilities as part of their sacred role.

Names in Prophecy

Here’s the structured and grammatically corrected version while preserving the original vocabulary and meaning:

The Book of Revelation mentions 12,000 from each tribe. In Revelation chapter 7, we see the names of Jacob’s sons listed. To understand why Jacob’s sons’ names appear here, we must recognize that Jacob was outside the kingdom.

The Book of Revelation is a book of prophecy, and within prophecies are parables. Therefore, the names of Jacob’s sons serve as parables.

Previously, when discussing the 7 churches, we learned that God uses elements from both:

  1. The time when the prophecy was recorded
  2. The time before the prophecy was recorded

to speak about future events.

This explains why Revelation contains references to:

– Balaam and Balak from the book of Numbers

– Jezebel from 1st and 2nd Kings

– Babylon, a nation long gone


These names appear in Revelation, a prophecy about the future, because similar events and people will appear spiritually. Israel, too, is used figuratively.

This also signifies God’s redemption of His tribes, which have appeared three times:

  1. In the Old Testament with physical Israel, who betrayed
  2. At the time of the first coming with spiritual Israel, who also betrayed (Revelation 6)
  3. Now at the time of Revelation’s fulfillment with new spiritual Israel

The names of Jacob’s sons are parables, and […] prophesies about […]. We are the tribe of […]. 

Our use of Jesus’ 12 disciples’ names isn’t random (Is it on a whim? Because we felt like it?), but connects to Jesus’s promise in Matthew 19:27-28.

Peter answered him, “We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?” [28] Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

At the time of renewal of all things, as Jesus spoke about, the fulfillment of Revelations takes place. During this renewal, those who are now spirits – including Jesus himself and his disciples who have died – will be present.

Jesus declared that when He sits on His glorious throne (which figuratively represents a person), at His second coming and the fulfillment of Revelations, His disciples too will sit on 12 thrones, judging the 12 tribes of Israel.

Jesus honored His disciples in this way because they suffered alongside Him, remaining faithful through thick and thin. As a testament to their faithfulness, their names are inscribed on the foundations of the Holy City, New Jerusalem.

Revelation 21:12-14 NIV84

It had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. [13] There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west. [14] The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

The 12 gates are positioned with three on each direction: north, south, east, and west. Each gate represents a tribe, and on the foundations were inscribed the names of the disciples. Mount Zion, Shinchonji, was not established by human whim but was created as if stamped by heaven itself.

In God’s kingdom, everything we do stems from the Bible. There is a specific reason for our actions. People who don’t understand often trip up because when they see us doing things differently, it doesn’t make sense to them.

They say, “That’s weird. Why do they do it like this? I always went to churches that did it differently.”

But our response is simple: we do it because it is written. We do it because it is recorded that it must be done this way.

We will learn more about how Mount Zion operates. It’s beautiful. I am excited for you all to get to see it. It’s something else.

SUMMARY

Revelation 7 describes the newly created 12 tribes of new spiritual Israel, which occurs after the judgment of the sun, moon, and stars detailed in Revelation chapter 6.

Following this judgment, God, Jesus, and heaven commence the work of establishing a new kingdom. Revelation 7 continues to be fulfilled today, and you are evidence of this fulfillment.

Let’s return to the two essential questions raised at the beginning:

  1. Who am I according to the Bible?
  2. Have I been created according to the Bible?

We can now answer these questions. You should be able to declare: “I am part of the 12 tribes. I am striving to be among the 144,000. I am one who is striving to be sealed.” This chapter should be about you personally.

The word “should” is used here with specific intention. Despite good intentions, someone might deviate from their path and end up fulfilling a different passage in Revelation.

Don’t let that happen! Instead, declare: “Revelation 7 is about me.”

This should be our cry. This should be our hope.

Revelation 7: The Newly Created Twelve Tribes of the New Spiritual Israel

In our lesson today, we explore Revelation 7, which contrasts with Revelation 6. The phrase “after this” in Revelation 7:1 is significant as it shows the chronological sequence of events in Revelation. This follows the events where the sun, moon, and stars were judged and disappeared from a strong wind, marking the end of one era as the first heaven and first earth betrayed.

In this sequence, four living creatures hold back the four winds of the earth, stopping the judgment for the new creation. This was done to allow the sealing of God’s servants – specifically 144,000 of them. After the sealing was completed, the winds were released again.

An angel brought the seal of God from the east where the sun rises. God is the sun, and where the sun rises becomes the location where God’s work begins – the place of revelation fulfillment. The seal represents God’s word, as referenced in John 1:1, and also refers to the person with the word who ate the open scroll in Revelation 10 – the New John.

Sealing means engraving the word of God in the mind and heart, as mentioned in Hebrews 8:10-12. Being sealed means accepting God’s word and recording it in our hearts and minds. The seal of God that we need today is the prophecies and fulfillment of Revelation. This work of sealing is carried out by both the spiritual realm (God, Jesus, and angels) and through people – specifically the Promised Pastor who received the open scroll in Revelation 10, along with the 12 tribe leaders.

The 12 tribe leaders each seal 12,000 in their respective tribes, totaling 144,000. These 144,000 are the sons of God born of God’s seed, sown by Jesus in the first coming. They are the harvested ones and the first fruits born through the word of truth. These sealed ones have mastered Revelation and will be appointed as pastors for the priest position in God’s new kingdom.

The sealing is crucial for several reasons: it ensures salvation at the appointed time, enables understanding of God’s word, allows us to help others flee from Babylon, and assists in fulfilling God’s prophecies. Those who are sealed become like wheat with seed, not like chaff (just a shell). When sealed with God’s word, we cannot be blown away by the wind, no matter its strength.

Therefore, we must strive to be the reality of the harvested wheat and become part of the new era – the newly created 12 tribes of new spiritual Israel.

Introduction: The Moment of Transition

You’ve made it through Revelation 6. You’ve learned about the judgment of the Tabernacle Temple—the “sun, moon, and stars” being darkened, the martyrs crying out, the cosmic upheaval. You’ve been told that Lee Man-hee is the white horse that Jesus rides, that he witnessed these events as the “New John,” and that this was “the last of God’s work.”

The judgment is complete. The old has passed away. And now, in Lesson 109, you’re being told what comes next.

The evangelist announces with excitement:

“And since all of you have deeper understanding of the word, many have been asking how the Sunday service is like in Mount Zion. So next Sunday, we, meaning instructors and evangelists who are part of Mount Zion, we will show you how it looks.”

This is not just another lesson. This is an invitation. You’re being invited to see Mount Zion—Shincheonji’s main gathering place. You’re being told that because you now have “deeper understanding,” you’re ready to see what the “real” church looks like.

But before that invitation, the lesson opens with a stark warning—a story designed to create fear about looking back, about questioning, about leaving.

The “Yeast of Heaven” reading tells the story of Lot’s wife:

“Lot’s wife could not forget her old life, so she turned around. Think about how much Lot’s heart must have been burning. Even though Lot shouted: ‘Please hurry! If you don’t, you will burn to death!’ She didn’t listen and became a pillar of salt.”

The application is immediate and personal:

“God has been working for the last 6,000 years for this very day. If one clearly knows the times, then one should offer up one’s heart, thoughts, actions and everything before God, and be faithful to the last work God is doing. But if one cannot forget about the world, and thinks about worldly things thinking: ‘What if…’ – this is turning around and looking back.”

The message is unmistakable: If you hesitate, if you question, if you “look back” at your old life or consider alternatives, you will suffer the same fate as Lot’s wife. You will become a pillar of salt—dead, useless, a warning to others.

The evangelist reinforces this:

“So if we clearly know the time and era that we are living in, what is the time and era that we are living in? It is the fulfillment of revelation or the fulfillment of the second coming, right? We must change our heart, thoughts, actions, and be born of God’s seed, be harvested, sealed, and flee to the mountain without turning back, right?”

You are being told that you are living in the fulfillment of Revelation, the fulfillment of the second coming, right now. This is not future. This is not symbolic. This is happening now, and you must “flee to the mountain without turning back.”

The instructor then leads a comprehensive review of everything you’ve learned from Revelation 1-6, reinforcing the entire narrative before transitioning to Revelation 7—the chapter that Shincheonji claims describes their organization.

This is a masterfully designed lesson. It uses:

  • Fear (Lot’s wife)
  • Urgency (6,000 years for this very day)
  • Identity (you are living in the fulfillment)
  • Social commitment (invitation to Mount Zion)
  • Reinforcement (comprehensive review)
  • Anticipation (transition to Revelation 7, the “new creation”)

But is any of this biblical? Is this how Revelation 7 was meant to be understood? And what happens when we examine these claims through the lenses of Scripture, history, and first-century context?

In this refutation, we will examine Lesson 109 through the dual lenses outlined in “Testing Shincheonji’s Claims: Two Lenses, One Story”—the Reflectional Lens (examining psychological and spiritual impact) and the Discernment Lens (testing claims against Scripture, history, and logic). We will also apply the First-Century Christian lens, asking what the original recipients would have understood, and the Historical and Political lens, examining the actual events through verifiable evidence.

This refutation does not focus on debates between Premillennialism, Amillennialism, or Postmillennialism. Instead, it seeks to understand Revelation as the first-century church would have—as a letter of encouragement and hope written to real communities facing real persecution.

Part 1: The Lot’s Wife Warning – Fear-Based Manipulation

SCJ’s Teaching: Don’t Look Back

The lesson opens with a powerful warning using the story of Lot’s wife:

“Lot’s wife could not forget her old life, so she turned around. Think about how much Lot’s heart must have been burning. Even though Lot shouted: ‘Please hurry! If you don’t, you will burn to death!’ She didn’t listen and became a pillar of salt.”

The application is explicit:

“If those who are walking the same road as God cannot forget about the world and only think about the world day and night, then won’t they suffer the same fate as Lot’s wife?”

The evangelist reinforces:

“So I pray that we will not follow the steps of Lot’s wife that can’t give up her old life, but instead let us be those who are looking forward to our new life, walking the same road as God and Jesus.”

The message is clear: If you look back, if you can’t let go of your old life, if you think about “worldly things,” you will become like Lot’s wife—turned into a pillar of salt, dead, a warning to others.

The Biblical Story: Genesis 19

Let’s examine the actual story of Lot’s wife to see if this application is valid.

Genesis 19:15-17, 26:

“With the coming of dawn, the angels urged Lot, saying, ‘Hurry! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away when the city is punished.’ When he hesitated, the men grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters and led them safely out of the city, for the Lord was merciful to them. As soon as they had brought them out, one of them said, ‘Flee for your lives! Don’t look back, and don’t stop anywhere in the plain! Flee to the mountains or you will be swept away!’… But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.”

The context is crucial:

  1. God was about to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because of their wickedness
  2. Angels came to rescue Lot and his family
  3. They were commanded to flee and not look back
  4. Lot’s wife looked back and became a pillar of salt

Jesus referenced this story in Luke 17:

Luke 17:28-33:

“It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. On that day no one who is on the housetop, with possessions inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything. Remember Lot’s wife! Whoever tries to keep their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life will preserve it.”

Jesus used Lot’s wife as a warning about being attached to worldly possessions and not being ready for His return. The point is about priorities—not being so attached to material things that you miss God’s deliverance.

The Problem with SCJ’s Application

Shincheonji’s use of this story has several problems:

1. It Equates Questioning with Disobedience to God

Shincheonji uses Lot’s wife as a warning against “looking back”—which they define as:

  • Thinking about your old life
  • Questioning whether Shincheonji is really God’s work
  • Considering leaving the organization
  • Maintaining connections with people outside Shincheonji

But the biblical story is about fleeing from God’s judgment on a wicked city, not about joining a specific religious organization. Lot’s wife was commanded by angels not to look back at Sodom as it was being destroyed. This is not analogous to questioning whether Shincheonji’s interpretation of Revelation is correct.

2. It Creates Fear Around Natural Doubts

When you’re being asked to accept extraordinary claims—that Lee Man-hee is the prophesied white horse, that events at a Korean church fulfilled cosmic prophecy, that Shincheonji is the “new heaven and new earth”—it’s natural and healthy to have doubts and questions.

But Shincheonji frames these doubts as “looking back” and warns that you’ll become like Lot’s wife—dead, a pillar of salt. This creates intense fear around the normal process of critical thinking.

3. It Misapplies Jesus’ Teaching

Jesus used Lot’s wife as a warning about being too attached to worldly possessions and not being ready for His return. He was not teaching that people should join a specific organization and never question its teachings.

In fact, Jesus warned against false teachers who would claim to have special revelation:

Matthew 24:23-26:

“At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you ahead of time. So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it.”

Jesus warned us not to believe those who say “Here is the Messiah!” or “Here is where God is working!” We are to test all teaching against Scripture.

4. It Exploits Sunk Cost Fallacy

By this point in the lessons, students have invested months of time, formed deep relationships, and been told they’re part of something cosmic. The thought of “looking back” or leaving feels like wasting all that investment.

The Lot’s wife warning reinforces this: “Don’t look back. Don’t question. Don’t consider alternatives. Just keep moving forward with us.”

But this is manipulation, not biblical teaching. The Bible encourages us to test everything:

1 Thessalonians 5:21:

“Test everything; hold fast what is good.”

Acts 17:11:

“Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.”

Even Paul’s teaching was to be examined against Scripture. Testing teaching is not “looking back”—it’s biblical discernment.

The Healthy Alternative: Testing and Discernment

The Bible does warn against returning to sin and worldliness:

2 Peter 2:20-22:

“If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. Of them the proverbs are true: ‘A dog returns to its vomit,’ and, ‘A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.'”

But “returning to sin” is not the same as “questioning Shincheonji’s interpretation of Revelation.” In fact, leaving a group that teaches unbiblical doctrine might be the most faithful thing you can do.

Galatians 1:8-9:

“But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!”

Paul says that even if an angel preaches a different gospel, we should reject it. We are to hold fast to the true gospel, not to organizational loyalty.

The question is not “Are you looking back?” but “Are you holding fast to the truth?”


Part 2: “The Fulfillment of the Second Coming” – A Dangerous Claim

SCJ’s Teaching: We Are Living in the Fulfillment

The evangelist makes an extraordinary claim:

“So if we clearly know the time and era that we are living in, what is the time and era that we are living in? It is the fulfillment of revelation or the fulfillment of the second coming, right?”

This is not presented as speculation or interpretation. This is presented as fact. Students are being told that they are living in “the fulfillment of revelation” and “the fulfillment of the second coming.”

The evangelist continues:

“We must change our heart, thoughts, actions, and be born of God’s seed, be harvested, sealed, and flee to the mountain without turning back, right? We may live in this world, but we are not of the world.”

The implication is clear:

  1. Revelation is being fulfilled right now
  2. The second coming is happening right now
  3. You must be “harvested” and “sealed” (join Shincheonji)
  4. You must “flee to the mountain” (Mount Zion, Shincheonji’s gathering place)
  5. You must not look back or hesitate

Biblical Response: The Second Coming Has Not Happened

The Bible is clear about what will happen when Christ returns:

Acts 1:9-11:

“After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. ‘Men of Galilee,’ they said, ‘why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.'”

Jesus will return “in the same way” He left—visibly, physically, in the clouds. This has not happened.

Matthew 24:30-31:

“Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.”

When Christ returns:

  • All peoples of the earth will see Him
  • He will come on the clouds with power and glory
  • Angels will gather His elect

Has this happened? No. The world has not seen Christ return on the clouds. Angels have not gathered the elect from the four winds.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17:

“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.”

When Christ returns, the dead in Christ will be resurrected. Has this happened? No. Christians who have died are still in their graves.

Revelation 1:7:

“Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all peoples on earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen.”

“Every eye will see him.” Has every eye seen Christ return? No.

The Problem with “Spiritual” Second Coming

Shincheonji teaches that the second coming is happening “spiritually”—that Christ is working through Lee Man-hee, that the events at the Tabernacle Temple and Shincheonji are the fulfillment.

But this contradicts the clear biblical teaching that Christ’s return will be visible, physical, and unmistakable. You can’t “spiritualize” away the clear statements that “every eye will see him” and “he will come in the same way you saw him go.”

This is the same error made by the Gnostics in the early church, who taught that the resurrection was only spiritual. Paul addressed this:

2 Timothy 2:17-18:

“Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have departed from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some.”

Claiming that the second coming has already happened “spiritually” is a departure from biblical truth. It destroys faith by replacing the blessed hope of Christ’s return with organizational membership.

The Blessed Hope

The New Testament consistently presents Christ’s return as a future hope that all Christians await:

Titus 2:13:

“While we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.”

Philippians 3:20-21:

“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.”

1 John 3:2-3:

“Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.”

We are waiting for Christ to appear. We will be transformed when He returns. This has not happened yet.

Claiming that the second coming has already happened robs Christians of this blessed hope and replaces it with organizational loyalty.


Part 3: The Invitation to Mount Zion – Escalating Commitment

SCJ’s Teaching: Come See Mount Zion

The evangelist makes an exciting announcement:

“And since all of you have deeper understanding of the word, many have been asking how the Sunday service is like in Mount Zion. So next Sunday, we, meaning instructors and evangelists who are part of Mount Zion, we will show you how it looks.”

This is a significant moment in the indoctrination process. Students are being invited to visit Mount Zion—Shincheonji’s main gathering place—to see what their Sunday service looks like.

This invitation serves several purposes:

1. It Validates Progress

“Since all of you have deeper understanding of the word…” You’re being told that you’ve reached a new level. You’re ready for something the general public isn’t ready for. This creates a sense of achievement and belonging.

2. It Creates Anticipation

“Many have been asking…” You’re not the only one curious. Others want to see this too. This creates social proof and excitement.

3. It Deepens Commitment

Visiting Mount Zion is a concrete action that deepens your commitment to the organization. Once you’ve visited their main gathering place, once you’ve participated in their worship service, it becomes harder to walk away.

This is a well-documented principle in psychology called escalation of commitment—the tendency to continue investing in something once you’ve already invested time, money, or effort, even when evidence suggests you should stop.

4. It Normalizes Shincheonji’s Practices

By seeing their Sunday service, you’ll see:

  • How they worship
  • How they teach
  • How members interact
  • The size and scope of the organization

This normalizes what might otherwise seem unusual or concerning. “Look how many people are here! Look how organized everything is! This must be legitimate.”

Understanding the Psychological Tactic

This is a classic cult recruitment tactic documented in Chapter 5 of “Testing Shincheonji’s Claims: Two Lenses, One Story.” It follows a predictable pattern:

Stage 1: Initial Contact (Beginner Level)

  • Friendly approach
  • Bible study invitation
  • “No pressure, just learning”

Before visiting Mount Zion, before deepening your commitment, you need to test what you’ve been taught against Scripture.

2 Corinthians 11:13-15:

“For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.”

Paul warns that false teachers can appear as “servants of righteousness.” They can seem sincere, organized, and biblical. But we must test their teaching, not just observe their practices.

Acts 20:28-31:

“Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.”

Paul warned that false teachers would “distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them.” The goal is not truth—it’s drawing people to themselves and their organization.

Before you visit Mount Zion, ask yourself:

  • Have I tested Shincheonji’s teachings against Scripture?
  • Have I sought outside perspectives from mature Christians?
  • Have I researched Shincheonji independently?
  • Am I being pressured to make this decision quickly?
  • What happens if I decline the invitation?

Part 4: The Comprehensive Review – Reinforcing the Narrative

SCJ’s Teaching: Let’s Review Everything

The instructor leads a comprehensive review of Revelation 1-6, going through each chapter and asking students to recall the main points:

Revelation 1:1-8 – The flow of the scroll from God to Jesus to the angel to New John

Revelation 1:9-20 – New John sees Jesus and the seven stars and seven lampstands

Revelation 2-3 – The letters sent to the messengers of the seven churches

Revelation 4 – The throne and structure of God in the spiritual realm

Revelation 5 – The book sealed with seven seals that only Jesus can open

Revelation 6 – The opening of the seals and the judgment of the Tabernacle Temple

But repetition doesn’t make something true. Just because you’ve been taught something multiple times doesn’t mean it’s biblical.

They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

If your understanding of Revelation is built on Shincheonji’s interpretation rather than on Scripture itself, it’s built on sand, not rock. When challenges come, it will collapse.


Part 5: The Transition to Revelation 7 – “The Reality of Revelation 7”

SCJ’s Teaching: You Are the Reality

The instructor prays:

“Help us to be those that are the reality of Revelation chapter seven, the reality of those who gather on the mountain, those who are either a part of the number or a part of the great multitude, who are all washed by your blood and receive the promised blessings.”

This is a crucial shift. Students are being told that they are “the reality of Revelation chapter seven.” They are the ones who “gather on the mountain.” They are either part of “the number” (the 144,000) or “the great multitude.”

This is no longer just about learning what Revelation means. This is about identity. You are not just studying Revelation—you are the fulfillment of Revelation.

The instructor continues:

“I also pray that you will help us be a catalyst, a link to all those around us, a conduit for which we can spread the Word that has been given to us. Help us to be able to think of even one person who we know would understand and love this Word very much.”

Now you’re being asked to recruit others. You’re not just a student—you’re a “catalyst,” a “link,” a “conduit” for spreading this teaching.

Understanding the Identity Shift

This is the culmination of months of psychological preparation. Students have been gradually led from:

  • “Let’s study the Bible together” (Beginner Level)
  • “Let’s learn the correct interpretation” (Intermediate Level)

“We” are the reality of Revelation 7. “They” (everyone outside Shincheonji) are not. This creates a sharp division between insiders and outsiders.

Biblical Response: Our Identity Is in Christ

The Bible teaches that our identity is found in Christ, not in organizational membership:

2 Corinthians 5:17:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

Our identity as a “new creation” is based on being “in Christ,” not on being part of Shincheonji.

Galatians 3:26-28:

“So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

We are “children of God through faith.” This is our identity—not “members of the 144,000 at Shincheonji.”

Colossians 3:3-4:

“For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.”

Our life is “hidden with Christ in God.” Our identity is secure in Him, not in an organization.

Ephesians 1:3-6:

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.”

We are chosen, adopted, blessed—all “in Christ,” all by grace. This is our identity. We don’t need to be “the reality of Revelation 7” to have purpose and belonging.

The Danger of Organization-Based Identity

When your identity is tied to an organization, several dangerous things happen:

1. Your Worth Becomes Performance-Based

If you are “the reality of Revelation 7” because you’re part of Shincheonji, then your worth depends on:

  • Staying in the organization
  • Accepting the teaching
  • Recruiting others
  • Being faithful to the “last work of God”

But biblical identity is grace-based, not performance-based.

2. You Become Vulnerable to Manipulation

If the organization defines your identity, then the organization controls you. Threatening your place in the organization becomes a way to control your behavior.

3. Leaving Becomes Identity Death

If your entire identity is wrapped up in being “the reality of Revelation 7” at Shincheonji, then leaving feels like losing yourself. This is why many former members describe leaving as traumatic—it’s not just leaving an organization, it’s losing an identity.

4. You Lose Connection with the Universal Church

If you believe you are “the reality of Revelation 7” and everyone else is not, you cut yourself off from the broader body of Christ. You can’t learn from other Christians, receive correction, or benefit from the wisdom of the historic church.


Part 6: What Revelation 7 Actually Means – First-Century Understanding

The Biblical Text: Revelation 7:1-17

Before we can understand what Revelation 7 means, we need to read the entire chapter:

Revelation 7:1-8 (The 144,000):

“After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree. First-Century Understanding: Who Can Withstand God’s Wrath?

The chapter ends with a question: “Who can withstand it?”

Revelation 7 answers that question: Those who are sealed by God can withstand it.

This is not describing two different time periods or two different organizations. It is describing two perspectives on the same reality:

  • Revelation 7: The perspective of those who are protected—sealing and security

“Jesus’s blood does what? Jesus’s blood purchases a kingdom and priests. Kingdom being, we’ll learn about today, a great multitude of people. And the priests being the 144,000 who have a very special d…”

The text cuts off here, but based on Shincheonji’s standard teaching (documented in “SCJ’s Fulfillment of Revelation Part 1 and 2” and the Advanced Level curriculum), we know their interpretation:

Shincheonji teaches that:

If there are only 144,000 spots available, and they’re being filled now, then you need to commit quickly or risk missing out.

4. It Justifies Organizational Expansion

The “great multitude” is described as “a great multitude that no one could count.” This justifies unlimited growth—there’s always room for more in the great multitude, so keep recruiting.

The Problem with Literal 144,000

Shincheonji’s interpretation requires taking the 144,000 literally while spiritualizing almost everything else in Revelation.

Consider the inconsistency:

They take literally:

  • The number 144,000
  • The 12 tribes
  • The sealing on foreheads

But they spiritualize:

  • The tribes are not literal Israel but organizational divisions in Shincheonji

  • The “great tribulation” is not literal tribulation but organizational conflicts

This selective literalism is arbitrary. Why take the number literally but not the tribes? Why take the tribes literally but not as actual Israelite tribes?

The answer is: Because it serves their organizational structure. The interpretation is driven by organizational needs, not by consistent biblical hermeneutics.

Biblical Response: The 144,000 Is Symbolic

As we discussed earlier, the evidence strongly suggests the 144,000 is symbolic:

The Historical Reality: Has Shincheonji Gathered 144,000?

According to Shincheonji’s own teaching, the 144,000 should have been completed by now. They have claimed at various times that:

  • The sealing was completed in 2007
  • The sealing was completed in 2012
  • The sealing is ongoing

The shifting timeline raises obvious questions:

  1. If the 144,000 were completed in 2007, why is Shincheonji still recruiting?
  2. If the number is literal, how do they verify that exactly 144,000 have been sealed?
  3. What happens to people who join after the 144,000 is complete?
  4. If some of the 144,000 leave (as many have), does that mean the number is no longer complete?

These questions reveal the practical problems with a literal interpretation. The number becomes a moving target that can be adjusted to fit organizational needs.


Part 8: The “6,000 Years” Claim – Creating False Urgency

SCJ’s Teaching: 6,000 Years for This Very Day

The “Yeast of Heaven” reading states:

“God has been working for the last 6,000 years for this very day.”

The evangelist reinforces:

“So God has been working for 6,000 years to this very day, right? Until today.”

  1. God has been working for 6,000 years (all of human history)
  2. Everything has been leading to this moment
  3. You are living in the culmination of God’s plan

The Bible does not say that God’s plan is 6,000 years long. This is an extrapolation based on:

Different calculations yield different dates. Some place creation at 4004 BC (Ussher’s chronology), others at different dates. The 6,000 years is not a biblical certainty—it’s a speculative calculation.

3. Used to Create False Urgency

Throughout history, many groups have claimed that they were living in the “final” generation, the culmination of God’s 6,000-year plan:

  • Various groups in the Middle Ages
  • The Millerites in the 1840s
  • Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1914, 1925, 1975
  • Various Korean religious movements in the 20th century

Each time, the prediction failed. Yet each time, the group claimed they had special insight into God’s timeline.

Shincheonji is using the same tactic: “This is the final work. God has been working 6,000 years for this very day. You must respond now.”

But this creates false urgency that pressures people to make decisions without adequate time for reflection and discernment.

Biblical Response: No One Knows the Day or Hour

Jesus explicitly taught that we cannot know the timing of His return:

Matthew 24:36:

“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”

Acts 1:6-7:

“Then they gathered around him and asked him, ‘Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?’ He said to them: ‘It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.'”

Jesus told His disciples it was “not for them to know the times or dates.” This includes us today.

Mark 13:32-33:

“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.”

We are to be watchful and ready, but we cannot calculate the exact timing of God’s plan.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-3:

“Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, ‘Peace and safety,’ destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.”

The day of the Lord will come “like a thief in the night”—unexpectedly, not according to a calculated timeline.

The Danger of Date-Setting

Throughout church history, date-setting has led to:

1. Disappointment and Disillusionment

When the predicted date passes without the expected fulfillment, people become disillusioned and may abandon faith altogether.

2. Poor Decision-Making

When people believe “the end is near,” they may make rash decisions:

  • Quitting jobs
  • Selling possessions
  • Neglecting education
  • Damaging relationships

3. Damage to Christian Witness

When predictions fail, it damages the credibility of Christianity in the eyes of non-believers.

4. Manipulation and Control

False urgency can be used to pressure people into decisions they wouldn’t otherwise make: “You must decide now! Time is running out!”

The biblical approach is different:

Romans 13:11-14:

“And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.”

We should live with urgency—not because we’ve calculated a timeline, but because Christ could return at any time and because life is short. Our urgency should lead to holy living, not organizational commitment based on fear.


Part 9: “Change Is Not Easy” – Normalizing the Difficulty

SCJ’s Teaching: Change Is Hard But Necessary

The evangelist acknowledges:

“Change is not easy. We know that, right? Change is not easy, but it is important in becoming a new creation where God and heaven can dwell.”

This statement serves several purposes:

1. It Validates the Difficulty

Students are likely feeling internal conflict, cognitive dissonance, and stress. By acknowledging that “change is not easy,” the evangelist validates these feelings while simultaneously framing them as normal and expected.

2. It Reframes Discomfort as Spiritual Growth

The difficulty you’re experiencing is not a warning sign—it’s evidence that you’re “becoming a new creation.” The harder it is, the more significant the transformation must be.

3. It Preempts Objections

If you’re thinking “This feels wrong” or “I’m uncomfortable with this,” the evangelist has already addressed it: “Of course it’s hard. Change is not easy. But it’s necessary.”

4. It Creates Obligation

“It is important in becoming a new creation where God and heaven can dwell.” If you don’t change (i.e., fully commit to Shincheonji), then God and heaven cannot dwell in you.

Understanding Cognitive Dissonance

What students are experiencing at this stage is cognitive dissonance—the psychological discomfort that occurs when you hold two conflicting beliefs or when your beliefs conflict with your actions.

Examples of cognitive dissonance at this stage:

Conflicting Beliefs:

  • “The Bible teaches that salvation is by grace through faith in Christ alone”
  • “Shincheonji teaches that I must join their organization to be saved”

Conflicting Beliefs:

  • “Jesus said no one knows the day or hour of His return”
  • “Shincheonji teaches that the second coming is happening now”

Conflicting Beliefs:

  • “The Bible teaches that we should test all teaching”
  • “Shincheonji teaches that questioning their interpretation is ‘looking back’ like Lot’s wife”

Belief vs. Action:

  • “I believe I should be honest with my family and friends”
  • “I’m hiding my involvement with Shincheonji from them”

This cognitive dissonance creates psychological discomfort—anxiety, confusion, guilt, stress.

Shincheonji’s response is to normalize this discomfort: “Change is not easy. This is normal. Keep going.”

But cognitive dissonance can also be a warning sign. Your mind is recognizing that something doesn’t add up. This discomfort might be the Holy Spirit prompting you to examine more carefully.

Biblical Response: Transformation Should Bring Peace

The Bible does teach that following Christ involves transformation:

Romans 12:2:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

2 Corinthians 3:18:

“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

But this transformation is:

1. A Work of the Holy Spirit

Transformation is not achieved through accepting a specific interpretation or joining an organization. It is a work of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer.

Galatians 5:22-23:

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

If the Spirit is transforming you, the fruit should be love, joy, peace—not anxiety, fear, and cognitive dissonance.

2. Based on Truth

John 17:17:

“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.”

Transformation happens through God’s truth, not through accepting questionable interpretations.

3. Accompanied by Peace

Philippians 4:6-7:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Following Christ should bring peace, not constant anxiety.

Colossians 3:15:

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”

If you’re experiencing constant anxiety, stress, and cognitive dissonance, this might not be the peace of Christ ruling in your heart.

The Difference Between Conviction and Manipulation

There is a difference between:

Biblical Conviction:

  • The Holy Spirit convicting you of sin (John 16:8)
  • Feeling challenged to grow in holiness
  • Recognizing areas where you need to change
  • This brings godly sorrow that leads to repentance (2 Corinthians 7:10)

Manipulative Pressure:

  • Being told you must accept a specific interpretation or face judgment
  • Feeling pressured to make decisions quickly
  • Being warned not to question or “look back”
  • This brings worldly sorrow, anxiety, and fear

2 Corinthians 7:10:

“Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.”

Godly sorrow “leaves no regret”—it brings clarity, peace, and freedom.

Worldly sorrow “brings death”—it brings anxiety, confusion, and bondage.

If what you’re experiencing is not bringing peace and clarity, but anxiety and confusion, it may not be from God.

Understanding Your Journey to This Point

By Lesson 109, students have completed an intensive, multi-month journey:

Beginner Level (Parables) – Months 1-2:

  • Established distrust of traditional Christianity
  • Taught the “Betrayal-Destruction-Salvation” pattern
  • Created dependence on Shincheonji for biblical understanding

Intermediate Level (Bible Logic) – Months 3-4:

  • Taught pattern recognition and “Bible logic”
  • Reinforced that only Shincheonji has correct interpretation
  • Deepened isolation from other Christians

  • Studying Revelation → Being the fulfillment of Revelation
  • Attending classes → Visiting Mount Zion and integrating into the organization

The Psychological Tactics at This Stage

At this stage, multiple psychological tactics converge:

1. Identity Transformation

“You ARE the reality of Revelation 7.” Your identity is now tied to Shincheonji. You’re not just a student—you’re part of the fulfillment of biblical prophecy.

2. Sunk Cost Exploitation

“Look how far you’ve come! Look how much you’ve learned!” The comprehensive review reminds you of all the time and effort invested. Walking away now feels like wasting months of your life.

3. Fear-Based Control

“Don’t be like Lot’s wife who looked back and became a pillar of salt.” Questioning or leaving is framed as spiritual death.

4. Social Commitment

“Come see Mount Zion! See how we worship!” You’re being invited to take concrete steps that deepen your social and emotional investment.

5. Urgency and Scarcity

“God has been working 6,000 years for this very day.” This is the final work. You must commit now or miss God’s ultimate plan.

6. Normalization of Discomfort

“Change is not easy.” Your cognitive dissonance and anxiety are framed as normal parts of spiritual growth, not warning signs.

7. Recruitment Obligation

“Be a catalyst, a link, a conduit.” Now you’re expected to bring others in, which further deepens your commitment.

The Point of No Return?

Many former members describe Lesson 109 and the invitation to Mount Zion as a “point of no return” in their journey.

Why?

1. Once You Visit Mount Zion, You’re Publicly Associated

Visiting their main gathering place is a public act. Other members see you there. You’re no longer just a student—you’re a participant.

2. Once You Identify as “The Reality of Revelation 7,” Leaving Means Identity Crisis

If your entire identity is wrapped up in being part of the fulfillment of Revelation, leaving means losing that identity. This is psychologically devastating.

3. Once You Start Recruiting, You’re Invested in the System

If you’ve brought friends or family into the classes, you have a stake in Shincheonji being true. Admitting it’s false means admitting you led others astray.

4. Once You’ve Normalized the Discomfort, You Stop Listening to Warning Signs

If you’ve accepted that “change is not easy” and that discomfort is normal, you stop recognizing when something is genuinely wrong.

But it’s important to know: There is no actual “point of no return.”

You can leave at any time. You can question at any time. You can seek outside perspectives at any time.

The “point of no return” is psychological, not spiritual. It’s a feeling, not a reality.


Part 11: The Theological Problems with “The Reality of Revelation 7”

Problem #1: Confusing Symbol with Reality

Shincheonji teaches that they are “the reality of Revelation 7″—that the vision John saw is being literally fulfilled in their organization.

But this confuses the nature of apocalyptic literature.

Revelation uses symbolic visions to communicate spiritual truths. The visions are not blueprints for literal, physical fulfillment. They are symbolic representations of spiritual realities.

For example:

Revelation 12:1-2:

“A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth.”

This is symbolic imagery. No one expects to see a literal woman clothed with the sun standing on the moon. The woman represents God’s people (Israel/the church), and the vision communicates spiritual truth about the birth of the Messiah and the persecution of God’s people.

Similarly, the 144,000 and the great multitude in Revelation 7 are symbolic representations of God’s people—sealed, protected, and worshiping before His throne.

Shincheonji’s error is treating the symbol as if it requires literal, physical fulfillment in a specific organization.

Problem #2: Making Salvation Organizational

Shincheonji’s interpretation makes salvation dependent on organizational membership:

  • You must be part of the 144,000 or the great multitude
  • These groups only exist at Shincheonji
  • Therefore, you must join Shincheonji to be saved

But the Bible teaches that salvation is through faith in Christ, not organizational membership:

Ephesians 2:8-9:

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Acts 4:12:

“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

Salvation is in the name of Jesus, not in the name of Shincheonji.

John 14:6:

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'”

Jesus is the way—not an organization, not an interpretation, not membership in the 144,000.

Problem #3: Claiming Exclusive Status

By claiming to be “the reality of Revelation 7,” Shincheonji claims exclusive status as the only true people of God.

But the Bible teaches that the church is universal—all believers in Christ throughout history and across the world:

Ephesians 4:4-6:

“There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”

There is “one body”—the universal church, not one organization in Korea.

Hebrews 12:22-24:

“But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.”

All believers have come to “Mount Zion”—not a physical location in Korea, but the spiritual reality of being in God’s presence through Christ.

1 Peter 2:9-10:

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”

All believers are “a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation.” This is not unique to Shincheonji—this is the status of every Christian.

Problem #4: Replacing Christ with Organization

Ultimately, Shincheonji’s teaching replaces Christ as the center with their organization as the center.

The focus shifts from:

  • Faith in Christ → Membership in Shincheonji
  • The gospel → The interpretation of Revelation
  • The work of the Holy Spirit → The teaching of Lee Man-hee
  • The universal church → Shincheonji as the exclusive people of God

But Christ must remain central:

Colossians 1:18:

“And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.”

Christ has the supremacy “in everything”—not Lee Man-hee, not Shincheonji, not any human organization.

Colossians 2:6-8:

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.”

Paul warns against being “taken captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy.” Any teaching that shifts the focus from Christ to an organization is deceptive, regardless of how biblical it sounds.


Part 12: Practical Guidance – What Should You Do?

If You’re Currently Taking This Lesson

You are at a critical decision point. You’re being invited to:

  • Identify as “the reality of Revelation 7”
  • Visit Mount Zion (physical commitment)
  • Begin recruiting others
  • Fully integrate into Shincheonji

Before you take these steps, you need to:

1. Pause and Reflect

Don’t let urgency pressure you into a decision. Take time to think critically about what you’re being asked to believe and do.

Ask yourself:

  • Am I comfortable with how Revelation is being interpreted?
  • Does this interpretation align with what the first-century Christians would have understood?
  • Can I verify these claims independently?
  • Am I feeling peace, or am I feeling anxiety and pressure?
  • What happens if I say “I need more time to think about this”?

2. Test the Teaching

1 Thessalonians 5:21: “Test everything; hold fast what is good.”

Test Shincheonji’s teaching by:

  • Reading Revelation in context (the whole book, not just selected verses)
  • Reading what other Christians throughout history have understood
  • Examining the claims about the Tabernacle Temple through historical research
  • Asking questions and seeing how they respond

3. Seek Outside Counsel

Proverbs 11:14: “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.”

Talk to:

  • A pastor or Christian counselor outside of Shincheonji
  • Family members or friends who can give you an objective perspective
  • Former Shincheonji members who can share their experiences

Recognizing these tactics doesn’t mean the people using them are evil—many instructors genuinely believe what they’re teaching. But it does mean you need to be aware of how these tactics affect your decision-making.

5. Trust Your Instincts

If something feels wrong, if you’re experiencing constant anxiety, if you’re uncomfortable with the pressure—trust those feelings.

Proverbs 14:15:

“The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps.”

You are not being “simple” or “faithless” by taking time to think carefully. You are being prudent.

If You’re Considering Visiting Mount Zion

Before you visit Mount Zion, understand what this step represents:

1. It’s a Public Commitment

Once you visit, you’re publicly associated with Shincheonji. Other members will see you. Your instructors will see you as more committed.

2. It Deepens Emotional Investment

Seeing the worship service, meeting other members, experiencing the community—all of this creates emotional bonds that make leaving harder.

3. It Normalizes Shincheonji’s Practices

What might seem unusual from the outside can seem normal once you’re inside. “Look how many people are here! Look how organized it is! This must be legitimate.”

4. It’s Designed to Lead to Baptism and Full Membership

The invitation to Mount Zion is not the end—it’s a step toward full organizational integration, including baptism into Shincheonji.

Before you go, ask yourself:

  • Have I fully tested Shincheonji’s teaching against Scripture?
  • Have I sought outside perspectives?
  • Am I making this decision freely, or am I feeling pressured?
  • What will I do if I have doubts after visiting?

You have the right to:

  • Decline the invitation
  • Ask for more time
  • Visit with a friend or family member
  • Leave at any time if you feel uncomfortable

Don’t let the Lot’s wife warning pressure you into a decision you’re not ready for.

If You’re Already Deeply Involved

If you’re already visiting Mount Zion, already identifying as part of the 144,000, already recruiting others—it’s not too late to step back and reassess.

Many former members describe feeling “too far in to turn back.” But this is a psychological trap, not a spiritual reality.

Romans 8:38-39:

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Nothing can separate you from God’s love—not even leaving Shincheonji.

If you’re having doubts:

1. Acknowledge Them

Don’t suppress your doubts. Doubts are not a sign of weak faith—they’re an opportunity to seek truth.

2. Research Independently

Read testimonies from former members. Research the Tabernacle Temple. Study how other Christians interpret Revelation.

3. Reach Out for Help

Contact organizations that help people leave high-control groups. Talk to a counselor who understands spiritual abuse.

4. Plan Your Exit

Leaving may be difficult, especially if your social circle is entirely within Shincheonji. Plan ahead:

  • Reconnect with family and friends outside the group
  • Find a healthy church community
  • Seek counseling if needed
  • Be prepared for pressure to stay

5. Remember Your Identity in Christ

Your identity is not “member of the 144,000 at Shincheonji.” Your identity is “child of God through faith in Christ.”

Galatians 3:26:

“So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith.”

This identity cannot be taken away by leaving an organization.


Part 13: The True Message of Revelation 7

What First-Century Christians Heard

Let’s return to what Revelation 7 meant to its original audience—Christians facing persecution in the Roman Empire.

They heard:

1. God’s People Are Sealed and Protected

Revelation 7:2-3:

“Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea: ‘Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God.'”

Before judgment falls, God seals His people. They are marked as belonging to Him and are protected from His wrath.

This would have given tremendous hope to Christians facing persecution: “You are sealed by God. You belong to Him. You are protected.”

2. God’s People Are Complete and Perfect

The 144,000 (12 × 12 × 1,000) represents the complete, perfected people of God. Not one is missing. God knows each one by name.

This would have assured Christians: “You are not forgotten. You are part of God’s complete, perfected people.”

3. God’s People Are Universal

Revelation 7:9:

“After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.”

The vision shifts from the 144,000 (Israel imagery) to a great multitude from all nations. This fulfills God’s promise to Abraham that “all nations will be blessed through you.”

This would have encouraged Gentile Christians: “You are included. God’s people are not limited to ethnic Israel. You are part of the great multitude.”

4. God’s People Will Be Vindicated

Revelation 7:14-17:

“These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat down on them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

Those who endure persecution (“come out of the great tribulation”) will be vindicated. They will stand before God’s throne in worship. All their suffering will end. God will wipe away every tear.

This would have given hope to Christians facing martyrdom: “Your suffering is temporary. Your vindication is eternal. God will wipe away every tear.”

The Timeless Application

This message applies to all Christians throughout history:

1. We Are Sealed by the Holy Spirit

Ephesians 1:13-14:

“And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.”

All believers are sealed with the Holy Spirit. This is not something that happens at Shincheonji—it happens when you believe in Christ.

2. We Are Part of God’s Universal Church

We don’t need to join a specific organization to be part of the 144,000 or the great multitude. We are part of God’s people through faith in Christ.

3. We Will Be Vindicated

Romans 8:18:

“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”

Whatever suffering we face in this life is temporary. We await the day when Christ returns, when we will stand before His throne, and when God will wipe away every tear.

4. We Have Hope

Revelation 7 is a message of hope—not hope in an organization, but hope in God’s faithfulness, Christ’s victory, and the promised future when all things will be made new.

This is the true message of Revelation 7—not a message about joining Shincheonji, but a message about God’s eternal faithfulness to His people.


Conclusion: The Choice Before You

Two Invitations

You are being presented with two invitations:

Shincheonji’s Invitation:

  • Come to Mount Zion (our building)
  • Identify as “the reality of Revelation 7” (our organization)
  • Be part of the 144,000 or great multitude (our structure)
  • Don’t look back (don’t question)
  • This is the fulfillment of 6,000 years of God’s work (urgency)
  • Change is not easy, but it’s necessary (normalize discomfort)

Christ’s Invitation:

Matthew 11:28-30:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Christ invites you to come to Him—not to an organization, not to a building, not to a specific interpretation.

He promises:

Hebrews 12:22-24:

“But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.”

All believers have already come to Mount Zion—the spiritual reality of being in God’s presence through Christ. You don’t need to visit a building in Korea. You don’t need to join an organization. You need Jesus.

The Real Warning

The real warning is not “Don’t be like Lot’s wife who looked back.”

The real warning is:

Matthew 7:15-20:

“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.”

Test the fruit:

  • Does this teaching bring peace or anxiety?
  • Does it create freedom or control?
  • Does it point to Christ or to an organization?
  • Does it encourage testing or suppress questioning?
  • Does it produce love, joy, peace—or fear, pressure, and isolation?

Galatians 5:1:

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”

Christ has set you free. Don’t let anyone—no matter how sincere, no matter how biblical they sound—burden you with a yoke of slavery to an organization, an interpretation, or a human leader.

The Blessed Hope

The Bible’s message is not “You must join the right organization before time runs out.”

The Bible’s message is:

Titus 2:11-14:

“For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.”

We wait for “the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.”

This hope is:

  • Future (we are still waiting)
  • Visible (the appearing of His glory)
  • Universal (for all who believe)
  • Certain (based on Christ’s finished work, not our organizational membership)

1 John 3:2-3:

“Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.”

“When Christ appears”—this has not happened yet. We are still waiting. And this hope—the hope of seeing Christ and being transformed to be like Him—is what purifies us, not organizational membership.


Part 14: Moving Forward – Reclaiming Your Faith

If You Decide to Leave

Leaving Shincheonji is not leaving God. It is leaving an organization that has placed itself between you and God.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. You Will Grieve

Leaving involves loss:

  • Loss of community
  • Loss of identity
  • Loss of certainty
  • Loss of friendships
  • Loss of time invested

This grief is real and valid. Give yourself permission to grieve.

Don’t stop testing just because you’ve decided to stay. Continue to examine Shincheonji’s teaching against Scripture.

Understanding the Pattern

As documented in the Korean cult genealogy resources, Shincheonji is part of a lineage of Korean religious movements that share similar patterns and claims.

The Genealogy:

1. Park Tae-sun (Olive Tree Movement, 1950s-1960s)

  • Claimed to be the Holy Spirit incarnate
  • Taught that believers would not die
  • Established a community that believed he was the fulfillment of prophecy

2. Yoo Jae-yeol (Tabernacle Temple, 1960s-1980s)

Here’s the question that exposes the problem with this genealogy:

If Yoo Jae-yeol’s Tabernacle Temple was the fulfillment of Revelation, why did it fail?

Shincheonji’s answer: “It was supposed to fail. Its failure was the judgment prophesied in Revelation 6. Lee Man-hee witnessed this judgment and founded the true fulfillment in Revelation 7.”

But this is post-hoc rationalization—reinterpreting failure as part of the plan after the fact.

The logic works like this:

  • If the organization succeeds: “This proves we’re the fulfillment!”
  • If the organization fails: “This proves we’re the fulfillment—the failure was prophesied!”

This is not how biblical prophecy works. Biblical prophecy is specific, testable, and verifiable—not infinitely flexible to fit any outcome.

The Repeating Pattern

What happens when Shincheonji faces challenges or when the next leader emerges?

The pattern suggests:

  1. A new leader will emerge
  2. He will claim Shincheonji has been “judged” or has “failed”
  3. He will reinterpret Shincheonji’s struggles as prophesied judgment
  4. He will claim his new organization is the true fulfillment
  5. The cycle will continue

This has already happened multiple times in this lineage. Each leader claims the previous one failed, but his organization is the true fulfillment.

At some point, we need to ask: Is the problem with each individual leader, or is the problem with the entire approach of trying to find literal, organizational fulfillment of Revelation’s symbolic visions?

The Historical Reality of the Tabernacle Temple

As documented in “The Real Reasons Behind the Tabernacle Temple’s Destruction and Sale” and “SCJ’s Fulfillment of Revelation Part 1 and 2,” the Tabernacle Temple’s collapse was not cosmic judgment—it was organizational conflict.

What actually happened:

  • Leadership disputes over authority and succession
  • Theological disagreements about Yoo’s teachings
  • Financial disputes over money and property
  • Personal conflicts and broken relationships
  • The organization fractured into multiple groups
  • The property was eventually sold

This is not the fulfillment of Revelation 6—this is normal organizational conflict that happens in many religious groups.

Lee Man-hee was part of this organization and participated in these conflicts. He later reinterpreted these events as prophesied judgment to establish his own authority and organization.

But reinterpreting organizational failure as prophetic fulfillment doesn’t make it true.


Part 17: The True Mount Zion

What Is Mount Zion?

Shincheonji invites you to visit “Mount Zion”—their physical gathering place. But what does the Bible teach about Mount Zion?

In the Old Testament, Mount Zion was:

  • The hill in Jerusalem where the temple was built
  • The dwelling place of God’s presence
  • The center of worship for Israel

Psalm 48:1-2:

“Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain. Beautiful in its loftiness, the joy of the whole earth, like the heights of Zaphon is Mount Zion, the city of the Great King.”

But in the New Testament, Mount Zion takes on a spiritual meaning:

Hebrews 12:22-24:

“But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. Notice the verb tense: “you have come.” Not “you will come” or “you must go to.” You have already come to Mount Zion through faith in Christ.

Galatians 4:25-26:

“Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children. But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.”

The “Jerusalem that is above” (Mount Zion) is spiritual, not physical. It is “free,” not bound to a physical location or organization.

Revelation 14:1:

“Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads.”

In Revelation, Mount Zion is where the Lamb (Christ) stands with the 144,000. This is a spiritual vision, not a description of a physical building in Korea.

The Contrast

Shincheonji’s Mount Zion:

  • A physical building
  • Requires you to visit
  • Exclusive to their organization
  • Controlled by human leadership
  • Requires organizational membership

Biblical Mount Zion:

  • A spiritual reality
  • You’ve already come through faith in Christ
  • Includes all believers throughout history
  • Where Christ reigns
  • Entered by grace through faith

Revelation Is for All Christians

One of the great tragedies of Shincheonji’s teaching is that it takes Revelation—a book meant to encourage all Christians—and makes it exclusive to their organization.

Nothing can separate you from God’s love—not leaving Shincheonji, not questioning their interpretation, not “looking back.” If you are in Christ, you are secure.

This Is What Matters

  • Whether you can identify the white horse

Jesus invites you to the mountain where He is—not a building, but His presence. And He promises: “I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

You don’t need to visit a physical location to be in God’s presence. Through Christ, you have access to God anywhere, anytime.

Hebrews 4:16:

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

You can approach God’s throne with confidence—not because you’re part of the right organization, but because of Christ’s finished work.

The Choice

The choice before you is not:

  • “Will I visit Mount Zion or not?”
  • “Will I join Shincheonji or not?”
  • “Will I accept their interpretation or not?”

The choice is:

  • Will I trust in Christ alone, or will I trust in organizational membership?
  • Will I rest in grace, or will I strive for acceptance through correct interpretation?
  • Will I be part of the universal church, or will I limit myself to one organization?
  • Will I have freedom in Christ, or will I submit to organizational control?

Choose freedom. Choose grace. Choose Christ.
