Shincheonji and Salvation – Prophecy and Fulfillment – Book of Revelation is the New Covenant
For Shincheonji, salvation is no longer just about Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross. Instead, Shincheonji presents a new gospel, the gospel of “prophecy and fulfillment”.
We can see this shift when looking at how Shincheonji views
John 19:30 – When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
A Christian would interpret the phrase “It is finished” as the completion of God’s atonement. At the most fundamental level, “It is finished” signifies the completion of Jesus’ atoning sacrifice for the sins of humanity. Christians believe that Jesus, as the Son of God, willingly took on the punishment for sin that humanity deserved. His death on the cross served as a perfect and final sacrifice, bridging the gap between God and humanity. This concept is central to Christian faith and is often referred to as “atonement” or “propitiation.”
While Shincheonji does believe that Christ’s sacrifice on the cross is needed, they believe this atonement is only fully realized at the time of Revelation’s fulfillment. In order for a person’s sins to be atoned, Shincheonji also believes that you need to also believe in the testimony of Lee Manhee, who proclaims the fulfillment of the Book of Revelation, which is the New Covenant.
Salvation is found in Shincheonji through Lee Manhee’s Testimony
Salvation can only be found through the “one who overcomes”, the “new john” who can plainly explain the “secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven” and testify to the reality of the events of Revelation.
The Physical Fulfillment of Revelation, Page 10 – 11: “No one can come to Jesus, gain eternal life, or enter heaven except through the one who overcomes (Revelation 10). … Today, Revelation is being fulfilled, and salvation can only be obtained through the promised one who overcomes (Rv 2-3, Rv 21:7). People who deny this do not believe Jesus or his words and are controlled by evil spirits.
We can also see how Shincheonji exalts Lee Manhee to a Messianic role, since salvation is only made possible by believing in his words of testimony.
The Physical Fulfillment of Revelation, page 571 – The 39 books of the Old Testament testify about one person, Jesus, who was the promised pastor at the time of the first coming. In the same way, the 27 books of the New Testament testify about one person, the one who overcomes, the new John, who is the promised pastor at the time of the second coming.
Pattern of Fulfillment
Shincheonji teaches that God fulfills His promises through a recurring pattern: Betrayal, Destruction, Salvation. Each cycle involves specific groups of people who play key roles in this divine narrative. In order for one to be saved, one must know and perceive who realities are of for each of the entities.
The Creation of Heaven & Earth, Page 399: “To attain salvation, believers must recognize the true identities of the chosen people who are destroyed due to betrayal, the enemies of God who bring about this destruction, and the promised pastor who emerges as the savior… “Those who seek salvation should know and believe in the true identities of the betrayers, the destroyers, and the savior.”
Atonement for sins
While Shincheonji does acknowledge that one needs to have the blood of Christ to atone for their sins, one also needs to have the correct understanding of the parables and the Book of Revelation, which is the New Covenant.
The Explanation of the Parables, page 8 – “Those who understand the parables become forgiven, thus being saved and going to heaven. Conversely, those who do not understand the parables are not forgiven and end up in hell.”
We can see this also further emphasized on the last page of the same book, published by Shincheonji.
The Explanation of the Parables, page 146 – “Those who understand the parables, the secrets of heaven, become atoned for their sins and the people of heaven. However, those who do not know them remain outside, unatoned for their sins, and ultimately face damnation (Matthew 13:10-17, Mark 4:11-12).”
As for the Promised Pastor, Lee Manhee makes it clear who to find this information from.
The Book of Life and the 12 Tribes of Mount Zion
One must be at the “mountain” or the place of salvation where God, Jesus, and the Heavens are working through. This is found at the place where the “One Who Overcomes” is at. Shincheonji establishes the pattern throughout the Bible:
In the Old Testament, Jacob receives the name “Israel” in Genesis 32:8, and Jacob establishes the physical Israelites through his 12 sons.
In the First Coming, Jesus overcomes the world (John 16:33), and establishes Spiritual Israel through the 12 Disciples.
In the Second Coming, God and Jesus chooses another person to establish the 12 Tribes of New Spiritual Israel through the “One Who Overcomes” who receives the “iron scepter” (Revelation 2:27).
Just like how one received salvation in the First Coming by believing in the testimony of Jesus Christ, one must believe in the testimony of Lee Manhee in order to receive salvation.
Shincheonji believes that their church registry is the Book of Life, and that even when one joins Shincheonji, their name can still be blotted out from the Book of Life.
The Physical Fulfillment of Revelation page 76 – If so, it could be said that the book of life, which is the census register of heaven, is the membership register of the church led by the one who overcomes, The one who fights and overcomes the Nicolaitans becomes New Spiritual Israel, establishes the twelve tribes and their temple, seals the 144,000 and the great multitude dressed in white, and records their names in the membership register of heaven. As promised in Rv 2-3, the one who overcomes not only inherits the food that leads to eternal life and the authority to rule the nations, he inherits every- thing from Jesus. According to Jesus’s will, he is given the authority to record in and remove people’s names from the book of life. If the one who overcomes records a name in the book of life here on earth, it is also recorded in heaven. If he blots out a name here in the physical | world, it is also blotted out in the spiritual world (Mt 16:19)
Being Born of God’s seed
Often referring to the parable of the wheat and the tares of Matthew 13, one must be “born of God’s seed”. The seed is the word (Luke 8:11), and one must be born of the correct seed, i.e. the word of testimony of Lee Manhee and the fulfillment of the book of Revelation which is the new covenant, in order to receive salvation.
Righteous Actions and Being Sealed
Since Shincheonji believes that one’s name can be “blotted out from the Book of Life”, which results in salvation being lost, one must maintain their life of faith by having the following requirements:
- Attending the Wedding Banquet of the Lamb and having the Wedding Clothes
- Having the olive oil and lamp
- Bearing fruit
Wedding Banquet of the Lamb
The wedding banquet of the Lamb, a symbolic event detailed in Revelation 19, represents the spiritual union of believers with the Holy Spirit of Jesus. This unification takes place within the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony, also referred to as the new heaven. This spiritual gathering occurs after the judgment of Babylon, the symbolic representation of the false church and worldly systems aligned with Satan. The judgment of Babylon is a key event, signifying the end of Satan’s influence and preparing the way for God’s kingdom.
The Physical Fulfillment of Revelation, page 464 – Jesus selects one pastor to be his wife and marries him in the last days. The new John, the one who speaks and acts on behalf of Jesus, is the bride prepared for the Lamb (Rv 22:17)
Righteous Actions and the Wedding Clothes
In order to have righteous actions, one must “wash their robes with the blood of the Lamb”, citing Rev 7:9. According to Shincheonji, the “blood of the Lamb” are the words of Jesus.
However, one must keep in mind, in order to have the “correct” understanding of the words of Jesus, one must go to the “One Who Overcomes” and learn from the “Promised Pastor of the New Testament”, as seen below:
Physical Fulfillment of Revelation, page 563 – “Ignoring the book of Revelation or partially interpreting it is the same as subtracting from it. Interpreting Revelation according to one’s own thoughts or imagination is the same as adding to it. Those who do not know Revelation, those who know it only in part, and those who misinterpret it are the people who add to or subtract from Revelation. This is why believers must learn the entire book of Revelation from the promised pastor (Rv 1:1-3, Rv 10).”
This mean one must be “sealed” with the “correct knowledge” of the Bible, and obey the Promised Pastor and leadership in the structure of the New Heaven and New Earth, Shincheonji.
Olive Oil and the Lamp
The olive oil is the testimony of Lee Manhee, who reveal the true meaning of Revelation and guide believers toward salvation Just as olive oil was used to light the lamps in the tabernacle, the testimony of the two witnesses illuminates the spiritual understanding of believers, helping them to navigate the complexities of the end times.
Shincheonji interprets the olive oil in Matthew 25 of the foolish and wise virgins as the “word of testimony”, and that the lamp is the Bible, and the light is the understanding and faith in the word of testimony.
If one does not have enough olive oil in the jar, which represents a person’s heart, then they can lose their salvation and be throne out into the darkness.
Bearing Fruit
Often what happens is if a person does not recruit, they are reprimanded for their lazy mindset, and the requirements and definition of bearing fruit can change. For example, bearing fruit can also mean just getting people into Shincheonji’s extensive Bible Study class, or sometimes a fruit is “shared” amongst the members, so that each member of Shincheonji is “covered”. This also often results in exaggerated reporting for Shincheonji’s graduations.
Conclusion
Shincheonji makes an emphasis that salvation is no longer just through Jesus Christ, but instead, exclusively through their organization. The leader, Lee Manhee, commits a similar sin that the Pharisees did at the first coming by putting himself in the seat of Moses (Matthew 23:2) by claiming to be the sole representative of Jesus, and having the true and correct interpretation of the Bible.
