Shincheonji’s (SCJ) interpretation of the role of the Holy Spirit in the parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins contains significant contradictions. SCJ diminishes the direct work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers, instead emphasizing its exclusive operation through Lee Man-hee. They claim that the “oil” in the parable symbolizes the “word of testimony” delivered through Lee Man-hee, guided by the Holy Spirit. This interpretation positions Lee Man-hee as the sole mediator through whom believers can receive the Holy Spirit.
Ironically, while SCJ mocks traditional Christian interpretations that identify the “oil” as the Holy Spirit, they arrive at a similar conclusion by asserting that the Holy Spirit operates indirectly through Lee Man-hee’s testimony. This stance not only elevates Lee Man-hee to an unbiblical role as an intermediary but also contradicts the scriptural teaching that the Holy Spirit is directly accessible to all believers through Jesus Christ, without the need for another mediator or conduit.
